BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 3. Iran plans to starts wheat harvesting in Khuzestan Province in the south-west of the country, as of April 9, 2023, Director of Khuzestan Province Agriculture Department, Rahmatollah Parichehr told ISNA, Trend reports.
The director said that wheat harvesting in the province will last for about 40 days. During the mentioned period, approximately 1.5 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased from the province’s farmers by Iran’s Government Trading Corporation (GTC), which means an increase of 10 percent compared to the preceding harvesting season.
Parichehr added that wheat has been planted in 421,000 hectares of ordinary land and 172,000 hectares of dry-farming land in the Khuzestan Province during the current season.
“In general, 700 of the province’s own combine harvesters and 3,775 combine harvesters from other provinces (Fars, Hamadan, Markazi) will be used for wheat harvesting in Khuzestan Province,” he noted.
As reported, Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has started wheat purchasing from local farmers under a guarantee in the south-east of Iran, as of March 28, 2023.
The price of 1 kg of wheat is set at 130,000 rials (about $3.09) for the current season. However, this price is expected to be changed.
In total, wheat was planted on 5.95 million hectares of land in Iran in the current season. Of this, 3.96 million hectares accounted for dry-farming land, while 1.99 million hectares for ordinary agricultural land.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
