The Chinese National Oil and Gas Corporation (CNPC) is rapidly constructing a gas-treatment plant. Its launch will mark the start of Turkmen gas being supplied to China, Neutral Turkmenistan, said on August 19.
"At present, 83.9 percent of the total construction operations, with capacity of 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year, have been completed," the information said.
According to the project the Chinese company plans to build another unit. Infrastructure is being developed within the project's term for the construction of a gas pipeline with a capacity of 40 billion cubic meters per year. A main line is being built via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. It is planned to be put into operation by late 2009.
CNPC operates in Turkmenistan within the Production Sharing Agreement on the contracted territory of Bagtiyarlik. Chinese partners are developing the necessary infrastructure in accordance with the schedule.
CNPC is the first company to receive an operator's license to explore and extract raw materials onshore in Turkmenistan. At present, 76 kilometers of pipes have been welded. A compressor and gas-measuring plant are being constructed.
