The activity of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) and its projects in Georgia is not threatened, head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists.

He noted that SOCAR is an international company that operates in other countries in accordance with agreements and contracts that meet international standards and legislation which in turn, allows investment protection.

There is a law on investment protection in Georgia and as a result, SOCAR investments in the country are not threatened. Abdullayev said the volume of SOCAR investments in Georgia is about $1 billion.

Abdullayev noted that there is also no problem with the new government of Georgia. The new leadership has expressed its respect and support for Azerbaijan, as well as for the activities and investments of Azerbaijani companies in the country.

After the formation of the new government all the opportunities and favourable conditions will be created for SOCAR to operate.

"Therefore, there is no problem in the operation of SOCAR in Georgia," Abdullayev said.

Today SOCAR owns 30 gas distribution networks in Georgia, as well as a network of gas stations numbering about 100 units. The company also supplies gas and petroleum products to Georgia. In addition SOCAR has an oil terminal in Georgia - Kulevi and is building a urea plant.
