US State Department: SGC prime example of co-op between countries (UPDATE)
Baku, Azerbaijan, Oct. 10

The Southern Gas Corridor, which provides for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe, will ensure energy security by diversifying the sources of energy supply, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said Oct. 10 at a press conference in Baku.
However, he noted that some countries use the energy factor as a weapon. “The Southern Gas Corridor is a very large-scale project. Many companies and countries have spent billions of dollars to implement this project. The projects like SGC are a prime example of cooperation between countries,” Kent said.
The Southern Gas Corridor is one of the priority projects for the EU and provides for the transportation of 10 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas from the Caspian region through Georgia and Turkey to Europe.
On May 29, Baku hosted the launching ceremony of the first phase of the Southern Gas Corridor project, and on June 12, the opening ceremony of TANAP was held in Turkey's Eskisehir.
The gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field has already gone through the first segment of the Southern Gas Corridor - from the Sangachal terminal to the expanded South Caucasus Pipeline. The commissioning of the TANAP gas pipeline, through which gas will flow into Turkey and further to Europe, has become the next stage of the SGC project.
