By the end of the year, the volume of oil refining at STAR oil refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR in Turkey will reach 8 million tons, First Vice President of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR, Academician Khoshbakht Yusifzade said in an interview with national Xalq newspaper, Trend reports.
Yusifzade also reminded that the plant is one of the biggest enterprises in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
“The first oil was sent by tankers to the STAR plant in July-August 2018, where test processing began,” the first vice president said.
Yusifzade added that the plant will process 10 million tons of oil per year.
“One of the main goals of the construction of this plant is to provide the Petkim petrochemical complex in Turkey with the appropriate oil products, including naphtha,” the first vice president added.
On Oct. 19, 2018, the opening of the SOCAR’s STAR oil refinery worth $6.3 billion took place in Izmir. The design capacity of the plant is 10 million tons, and SOCAR is the main supplier of raw materials for the enterprise.
The enterprise will reduce Turkey's dependence on imports of petrochemical products.
