BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 22. The National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) plans to drill 3 geothermal wells on the heights of Mount Sabalan in Ardabil Province (north-western Iran), Managing director of the National Iranian Drilling Company (NIDC) Hamid Reza Golpayegani said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
The director said that the mentioned three wells will be drilled under the contract of Iran's Oil and Energy Industries Development Company (OEID) with Iran's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH). If the parties agree, it is possible to increase the number of wells to be drilled.
Golpayegani added that work is underway to speed up the drilling of the wells. At present, the "Fath 85" drilling rig is installed on Mount Sabalan.
Iran's first geothermal power plant was built in Meshkinshahr County in Ardabil by the TPPH in the summer of this year. This station was built in order to acquire technical knowledge on the construction of geothermal power plants in the country.
