Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend / The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan adopted the 2007-2014 Program on Measures of Study of Potential of Hydrocarbons and Geodynamics of the Azerbaijani Section of the South Caspian Pit, a Government source stated.
These measures have been coordinated and suggested by the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Industry and Energy, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Ministry of Education and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan.
This program will be financed at the expense of funds intended for the National Academy of Sciences this year.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan state that the South Caspian Pit takes a special place among other similar world basins for difficulty of geological construction, richness of resources of hydrocarbons and geodynamic activity.
The geological methods which are presently used in the Caspian region, as well as in Azerbaijan have been constructed according to geological and geophysical data obtained from 1960-1990. They have deteriorated over several significant parameters. Over recent years, local and foreign companies have implemented large works which have provided an opportunity to collect geological and geophysical data. They have been used to produce oil and gas and study depths of 6- 8 km. Exploring and producing hydrocarbons from large depths requires creating new geological and geophysical models covering this depth.
The Program envisages devising a 25-35-km model of the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian. According to the model, new scientific and practical data will be obtained with regards to the hydrocarbons, migration and location of the fields, source of earthquake and mechanism of development of the region.
