Uzbekistan provides additional financial support to citizens

The Uzbek government has allocated two trillion soum (more than $195 million) for social assistance to citizens, Trend reports with reference to the Agency of Information and Mass Communications of Uzbekistan.

In accordance with the presidential decree, the funds will be allocated to support 1.7 million citizens in need, 3.7 million pensioners and 500,000 recipients of social benefits.

Over the past five days, material assistance worth 148 billion soum ($14.5 million) has been paid to needy families. Another 780 billion soum ($76.2 million) will be allocated in August 2020.

Supervision bodies have been instructed to establish permanent control over the proper distribution of funds and take measures to prevent violations of the law.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, a total of 907 billion soum ($88.4 million) has been allocated by Uzbekistan for financing measures against coronavirus, and 2.2 trillion soum ($214.4 million) for social support. About 684 billion soum ($66.6 million) was spent on construction of quarantine complexes, special hospitals and purchase of equipment for them.
