Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 25 November / corr Trend T.Zhukov / МТS-Uzbekistan mobile operator introduced service of international GPRS- roaming in a network of Azerfon company (Azerbaijan), Trend told.
Service of international GPRS- roaming in a network of Azerbaijani cellular operator has been introduced since 25 November, Uzbek cellular company told Trend .
Subscription fee for use of international GPRS- roaming service is $0.03 per day. Cost of use of Internet services totals $0.32 per 1 megabyte.
In July 2008, МТS-Uzbekistan introduced service of international roaming for its telephone subscribers in the network of Azerfon. In mid-1997, service of international GPRS-roaming was introduced in network of Azercell company (Azerbaijan).
Uzdunrobita foreign venture, providing its cellular services (GSM standard) MTS-Uzbekistan branded is the largest cellular operator in the country. The number of its telephone subscribers comprised 5.31mln on 1 November, the State Commission on radio frequency of the country told Trend .
Subscriber base of MTS in Uzbekistan increased by 2.9mln or by 120.2% over a year (since late-October 2007 to late-October 2008).
According to official data of the operator, ARPU indices (average monthly gain per telephone subscriber) totaled $10.3 within the first six months.
ARPU communication is accessible to 90% of population of the country. Total number of telephone subscribers of cellular communication network in Uzbekistan makes up over $11.595mln at present.
In August 2004, Russian Mobile Tele Systems (MTS) open joint stock company (OJSC) purchased from Uzbek private companies 74% of shares of Uzbek mobile operator at $121mln. Since June 2006, the operator launched delivery of MTS branded services. In summer 2007, Russian MTS purchased additionally 26% of shares of Uzdunrobita from local private investor, increasing its share in the company by 100%. Total cost of the contract made up $250mln.
