Work on a project to create an IT technology park is being carried out in Azerbaijan, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Elmir Velizade said on Thursday.
According to Velizade, the next step will be carrying out work on the design of the technology park and in particular, on its construction.
"An area covering a total of 30 hectares was allocated on the territory of Sumgayit for the construction of the park," Velizade said.
Construction of a technology park in the Azerbaijan is defined as a priority in the development of the IT industry. The project involves the creation of opportunities for the development of small and medium innovative entrepreneurship, establishment of a regional base for the production and export of electronic hardware and software, turning the country into an effective transit information centre, training and development of human resources for forming an informative society and the application of information technology in various fields.
One of the important issues addressed today within the framework of the project is to reduce and in some cases to nullify fiscal, social and customs taxes. A positive resolution of these issues will create favourable conditions for the import of products to Azerbaijan, as well as the conditions for the organisation of a production line of foreign investors in the country with further product exports to regional markets.
