Iran discloses details of its exports via Astara railway

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 1

A total of 113,000 tons of goods worth $55.8 million were exported via the Astara railway in the Gilan Province (northern Iran) during the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 20-September 21, 2020), Director General of Astara Customs Office Rasoul Omidi said, Trend reports citing Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

According to Omidi, these goods were transported in about 1,750 wagons during the reporting period.

The director general added the exported goods via Astara railway in 6 months were mainly ceramics, cement, fruit, glass, dates, brick, clinker and etc.

“In addition, 93,000 tons of goods worth about $46 million were imported via Iran's Astara railway over the same period,” he said.

Omidi noted that these goods were transported to the Astara railway terminal in 1,940 wagons.

The director general emphasized that due to the construction of the Rasht-Astara railway has not been completed yet, the products are still transported via trucks from the Astara railway to the Rasht railway and vice versa.

With the laying of the Rasht-Astara railway, the North-South Corridor will be improved and cargo will be transported via railway.
