Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 22 / Trend E. Kosolapova/

Kazakhstan and China have started to use a new railway crossing Altynkol-Khorgos, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakh railways) reported.

"Thus, an additional transit route from China to Europe via Kazakhstan appeared on Eurasia's railway map, significantly enhancing transport and logistics opportunities of this popular way of cargo transportation," the company said.

Only one railway line has connected Kazakhstan to China so far. Over 156 million tons of cargo have been transported by this railway line since it launching in 1991. However, the capacity of this railway line is limited.

The capacity of the new railway line is high. It is expected that cargo transportation through this line will hit 10 million tons in 2015 and 15 million tons in 2020.
