Kazakhstan needs tough policy to demonopolize economy - president

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 21

By Nargiz Sadikhova – Trend:

Kazakhstan needs a tough policy to demonopolize the economy, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Jomart Tokayev said, Trend reports citing the press office of the president.

“It is necessary to analyze artificially created private monopolies. Operators, especially private ones, should become a thing of the past. There used to be a term for private companies that bought out a number of economic functions of the state for an appropriate fee - this did not lead to anything good. I instruct the Government to ensure a ban on such activities by law," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

He stressed that all economic niches should be open to competition.

"All earlier decisions on operations similar to those mentioned above should be analyzed and measures should be taken to change them. Numerous intermediary chains artificially created in the market should be eliminated. A tough policy is needed to demonopolize the economy," Tokayev added.
