Kazakhstan records increase in retail trade

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 13. The retail trade volume reached 7.7 trillion Kazakh tenge ($17.5 billion) in Kazakhstan from January through June 2023, Trend reports.

According to the country's Bureau of National Statistics, this figure is 8.8 percent more compared to the same period of the previous year.

Furthermore, the retail sales of goods by trading enterprises amounted to 5.6 trillion Kazakh tenge ($12.7 billion), showing a growth of 11.9 percent compared to the same period last year.

The share of food products in the overall retail trade volume accounted for 29.3 percent, while non-food products constituted 70.7 percent.

The highest growth in sales volume was observed in the non-food sector, particularly in enterprises engaged in the sale of cars, car fuel, computers, peripheral equipment and software, food and beverages, tobacco products, footwear, cosmetics and toiletries, electrical household appliances, furniture, watches, and jewelry.

As of July 1, 2023, the inventory volume of trading enterprises in the retail sector amounted to 1.5 trillion Kazakh tenge ($3.4 billion), with an average of 72 days of trade (compared to 1.1 trillion Kazakh tenge or $2.5 billion and 61 days of trade as of July 1, 2022).

In terms of regional distribution, the largest share in the overall retail trade volume of the country in the first half of 2023 was accounted for by the cities Almaty (31.3 percent), and Astana (12.6 percent), as well as Karaganda (7.6 percent), and East Kazakhstan regions (6.3 percent).
