Kazakhstan records increase in retail trade

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 16. The volume of retail trade in Kazakhstan amounted to 13.122 trillion tenge (about $27.5 billion) from January through September 2023, which is 7.2 percent more than the level of the corresponding period in 2022, Trend reports.

Data from the country's Bureau of National Statistics shows that retail sales of goods by trading enterprises amounted to 8.937 trillion tenge (about $18.7 billion), which is 10.7 percent more than the level of the corresponding period in 2022.

The share of food products in the total volume of retail trade is 32.3 percent; non-food products are 67.7 percent.

The largest increase in sales volumes was noted for non-food products, namely at enterprises selling motor fuel, cars, pharmaceutical products, computers, peripheral equipment and software, automobile parts, components and accessories, shoes, furniture, watches, and jewelry.

As of October 1, 2023, the volume of inventory of trading enterprises (by reporting enterprises) in retail trade amounted to 1.539 trillion tenge (about $3.22 billion), in days of trading: 71 days.

The largest share in the total volume of retail trade in the republic from January through September 2023 falls on the cities of Almaty (32 percent), Astana (12.9 percent), Karaganda (8 percent), and East Kazakhstan (6.1 percent).
