WB, Tajikistan discuss solar power plant construction in Sughd region

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. The delegation of World Bank (WB) and Daler Juma, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, have discussed the process of preparing a project for a 200 MW solar power plant construction in the Sughd region, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Energy of Tajikistan.

The meeting took place in Tajikistan's capital Dushanbe on May 1. The delegation of WB was headed by Sudeshna Ghosh Banerjee, Practice Manager for Europe and Central Asia in the Energy and Extractives Global Practice of the WB.

Following the meeting, the sides discussed implementation of projects for heat supply of large cities, a project aimed to reduce electricity losses in distribution networks, and other regional projects.

The preparation for the Fifth Central Asian Climate Change Conference (CACCC-2023) which is expected to take place in Dushanbe from May 16-17 was also touched upon.

At the meeting, the Tajik minister thanked the WB representative for the support in financing the Rogun Hydropower Project.

Tajikistan and the International Development Association (IDA) signed an agreement for the prepayment to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a private solar power plant in the Sughd region on January 18, 2023.

According to the Asia Wind Energy Association, the climate of Tajikistan is very favorable for the use of solar energy, with 280-330 sunny days per year. The use of available solar energy in Tajikistan can meet 10-20 percent of the local energy demand.
