Turkmenistan and Iran intend to develop cooperation in the fields of transport and communications, manufacturing, agriculture, and water management, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

This was said during a video conference between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Mohammad Eslami on August 25, 2020.

The parties discussed several topical issues on the bilateral agenda, in particular, the interaction in trade and economic spheres. Thus, special emphasis was placed on the development of transport and transit cooperation and maintaining freight rail links between the two countries.

The sides stressed the important role of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation in the context of further strengthening of bilateral relations.

As reported, Iranian Shilat (Fisheries Company) is interested in supplying its products to the Turkmen market.

The two countries have accumulated a lot of experience working together. This included projects, designed to contribute to increasing trade and economic cooperation between Central Asian and Middle Eastern states.

Turkmenistan and Iran share borders on the Caspian Sea as wells as on land. Over the years of long-term cooperation, the countries have implemented many large-scale joint projects. In addition to border gas pipelines, the Dostluk (Friendship) dam was jointly built by the two countries.
