BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 24. Turkmenistan plans to officially join the agreement on the international transport corridor North-South, Russian Ambassador to Ashgabat Alexander Blokhin said, Trend reports with reference to TASS.

He noted that in order for Turkmenistan to become a full-fledged party to this treaty, the consent of all participating countries is necessary, and also added that Russia certainly approves of this accession, moreover, recommends that all other states also approve of this desire of Turkmenistan.

Blokhin stressed that at the moment Russia and Turkmenistan are conducting substantive negotiations on the creation of a highway along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea.

The intergovernmental Agreement on the creation of the North-South multimodal transport corridor was signed by Russia, India and Iran in 2000. Later, the list of participants expanded to 14.
