Installation of new modern traffic lights with timers has begun in the capital of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, the News of Uzbekistan media outlet reported on May 30.
Reportedly, the city authorities have already installed six traffic lights at the intersection of Matbuotchilar and Zarafshan streets. The authorities are planning to initially purchase 400 LED devices manufactured in Uzbekistan.
The city administration noted that the traffic lights with a timer will be installed only for pedestrians.
The purpose of the innovation is to make roads, places with a large flow of people, busy and dangerous streets more convenient and safe.
In mid-May 2018 a petition for voting for or against installation of traffic lights with timers was placed on the portal of collective appeals Mening Fikrim [My Opinion].
