The volume of wheat import to Uzbekistan from January through September 2020 in physical terms amounted to 1.8 million tons of wheat, while in value terms it amounted to $363 million, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan.

According to the ministry, Uzbekistan’s import of wheat for the same period in 2019 in physical terms amounted to 1.6 million tons and $272 million in value terms.

At the same time, Uzbekistan supplied 488,000 tons of wheat to foreign countries for $143.5 million over the past nine months.

The bulk of exports fell on Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Denmark. The country sent 22,000 tons of grain to Afghanistan and Tajikistan for $4.5 million.

Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan was the main supplier of wheat to Uzbekistan. However, according to the ministry, Uzbekistan is increasing its own grain production.

If in 2018 6 million tons of grain were grown in the country's fields, then in 2019 this figure increased to 6.8 million tons.

Following the production boost, Uzbekistan has increased flour export in the first half-year 2020 in physical volume by 2.2 times to 883,200 tons, and by three times in monetary terms - to $228,100, compared to the same period of 2019.
