BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 7. Uzbekistan significantly increased the imports of electric vehicles in January 2023, Trend reports with reference to Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

During the reporting period, Uzbekistan has imported 389 electric vehicles worth $13 million, increasing by more than 3 times, compared to January 2022 (123 cars).

China was the leading electric vehicle-exporting country for Uzbekistan in January 2023 – 346.

Meanwhile, in 2022, Uzbekistan imported 2,180 electric vehicles worth $69.8 million. This figure increased by 1,371 vehicles or 2.7 times compared to 2021. During this period, the vast majority of the electric vehicles Uzbekistan imported from China – 1,941.

Due to the growing demand for electric vehicles among the Uzbek population, the country’s authorities plan to install 2500 charging stations for electric vehicles by 2025, by fulfilling the Presidential “On measures to expand the infrastructure for the operation of electric vehicles" resolution.

According to the resolution, from January 1, 2024, all newly built shopping and business centers, places of entertainment and recreation, gas stations, hotels, and infrastructure facilities along international, as well as national highways must have charging stations.
