Uzbekistan to amplify energy capacity via upcoming plant operations

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 23. Uzbekistan plans to launch power plants with a total capacity of 2.2 GW in the coming months, Trend reports.

This was revealed during President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev's visit to Uzbekneftegaz's headquarters office to review Uzbekistan's power system's readiness for the winter season.

In the following months, eight solar and wind power facilities with a combined capacity of 1.7 GW, as well as a 500 MW gas turbine, are expected to come online in Uzbekistan's Syrdarya region.

Meanwhile, since the beginning of 2023, Uzbekistan has committed 14.5 trillion soums ($1.2 billion) for the upgrading of the country's energy sector and greater readiness for the next winter season.

100 substations, 11,500 transformers, and 34,000 kilometers of electricity transmission lines were updated as part of the power grid modernization effort. In addition, power plants with a combined capacity of 675 MW were launched.
