The Foreign Minister of UK, William Hague held phone talks with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi, Iranian State TV IRINN reported.

Reportedly, during the talks, Hague announced of UK's interest to boost bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two FMs expressed their hope that the negotiations between the two countries will continue during the United Nations Headquarters meeting in New York.

It was decided during the talks that the heads of political affairs departments of both countries' foreign ministries will start negotiations on boosting the bilateral relations, prior to the UN meeting.

It should be noted that UK was among the countries that acknowledged the recently held presidential elections in Iran, as a result of which, Hassan Rouhani secured over 50 percent of votes, and won the elections, France 24 reported on June 16.

A spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office urged Rohani to "use the opportunity to set Iran on a different course for the future: addressing international concerns about Iran's nuclear programme, taking forward a constructive relationship with the international community, and improving the political and human rights situation for the people of Iran."

In November 2011, amid increasing tensions between London and Tehran, Iranians stormed the British Embassy compound, destroyed property and briefly detained six embassy staff members.

In response, Britain evacuated its diplomatic personnel, closed its embassy in Iran and expelled Iranian diplomats.

Before the embassy attack, Iran's Majlis voted to reduce diplomatic relations with Britain in response to sanctions imposed against Tehran.
