Iran Materials 3 January 2014 01:01 (UTC +04:00)

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif is scheduled to pay a one-day official visit to neighboring Turkey to meet with his Turkish counterpart, Ahmet Davutoglu, PressTV reported.

The Iranian foreign minister will leave Tehran for Ankara on January 4, Turkey's official news agency, Anadolu, reported on Thursday.

Bilateral relations and developments in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq, are expected to come up during the meeting between the two foreign ministers.

The two senior diplomats will also exchange views on the nuclear talks between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council -- the United States, China, Russia, France and Britain -- plus Germany.

On November 1, Zarif said Iran and Turkey are two "major and influential" regional countries which can contribute to peace in the Middle East.

"The two countries can exchange views and work together to invite conflicting parties in the region to dialog and take steps toward the establishment of peace and security in the region," he said.
