Companies from Germany, Japan, and South Korea will build renewable energy plants in Iran.

Homayoun Haeri, Managing Director of Iran Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution Management Company (TAVANIR), said that some contracts are being finalized in this respect, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Feb. 14.
He also said that preliminary measures are being taken to connect power grids of Iran and Russia.

Yusef Armodeli, managing director of the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran said on Nov. 30 that four European countries are negotiating with Iran to build wind and solar power plants in the country.

Negotiations are underway with companies from Germany, Spain, Portugal and Italy, he added.

Earlier in October, Armodeli said Iran is planning to produce 5,000 megawatts of electricity in the next five years using renewable energy sources.
The power generation capacity in Iran has grown by seven percent annually during the past 10 years.

Its total electricity generation currently stands at 70,000 megawatts. Iran currently trades power with Azerbaijan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, Armenia, and Iraq.
