Iran to privatize more power plants

The head of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH) of Iran, Mohsen Tarztalab, has said that four power plants will be privatized in the near future.

“In general 11,570 megawatt (MW) of the total capacity of the government sector will be privatized, “he told IRNA.

According to the latest plan, the Loshan Power Plant, Loshan Power Generation Management Co, Shahroud Power Generation as well as Azerbaijan Power Generation are to be sold.

He further added that the foreign investors are also eligible to purchase the shares of the power plants.

Under the article 44 of the Iranian constitution, the government must reduce its share in the power plants to 20 percent and the rest should be owned by the private sector.

The country has already privatized 60 percent of its total capacity of power generation.
