Some 24.7 million tons of oil and gas condensate were produced in Azerbaijan in January-July 2016 that is by 0.7 percent more than in the same period of 2015, said the report of the country’s State Statistics Committee.

Azerbaijan produced 41.69 million tons of oil and gas condensate in 2015, as compared to 41.9 million tons in 2014.

The main volume of oil output in Azerbaijan accounts for the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) block of oil and gas fields.

Some 11.02 billion cubic meters of tank gas were produced in Azerbaijan in January-July 2016 that is by 8 percent less than in the same period of 2015.

Tank gas output was 19.72 billion cubic meters in Azerbaijan in 2015 versus 18.7 billion cubic meters in 2014.

Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR carried out drilling operations in the volume of 61,680 meters in January-July 2016 versus 62,620 meters during the same period of 2015.

Some 60,464 meters of all volume of drilling operations accounted for production drilling during the period, and 1,217 meters – for exploration drilling.

SOCAR commissioned 35 new wells in 1H2016.

SOCAR produced 4.42 million tons of oil from the country’s onshore and offshore fields in January-July 2016 versus 4.84 million tons in the same period of 2015.

SOCAR produces oil from offshore and onshore fields of Azerbaijan using its own funds.
A part of this oil is processed at refineries in Baku, while the other part is exported via the Baku-Novorossiysk and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipelines.

SOCAR produced 3.69 billion cubic meters of gas from the country’s offshore and onshore fields using its own funds in January-July 2016 compared to 3.98 billion cubic meters in the same period 2015.

Some 5.15 billion manat were invested in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas sector in January-July 2016, that is, 25.6 percent more than in the same period of 2015, said the report.

b) Processing

Azerbaijan produced 3.14 million tons of oil products in January-July 2016 compared to 3.67 million tons in the same period of 2015, said the report.

Currently, SOCAR is modernizing its processing facilities, as the fuel consumption has increased in the country.

During the reporting period, Azerbaijan produced 680,900 tons of gasoline, or 0.7 percent more than in January-July 2015.

Alco Lubricant Company has become the ninth resident of Azerbaijan’s Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park (SCIP). The company will produce lubricating oil in the territory of SCIP. The project’s cost is $10 million. A plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons will be built as a part of the project and the production will start in the second half of 2017.

Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree to create the Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park in December of 2011. The territory of Sumgait Chemical Industrial Park will be divided into two parts: administrative and social zone and industrial zone.

3. Electricity

Azerbaijan’s power plants generated 12.94 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January-July 2016, or 5 percent less than in the same period of 2015, the report said.

During the period, commercial electricity accounted for 12.36 billion kilowatt hours of the total produced electricity, or 4.8 percent less than in January-July 2015.

Thermal power plants gave 11.04 billion kilowatt hours of the total commercial electricity output in January-July 2016, or 7.5 percent less than in the same period of 2015.

During the period, Azerbaijan’s hydro-power plants generated 1.28 billion kilowatt hours of commercial electricity, or 21.7 percent more than in January-July 2015.

This is while, wind farms and solar power plants in the country produced 10.6 million and 36.7 million kilowatt hours of electricity, respectively, in January-July 2016.

Azerenergy JSC is the main producer of electricity in Azerbaijan. It has over 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kilovolt amperes, as well as 10 hydro power plants and 14 thermal power plants.

At present, the generation capacity of Azerbaijan's power supply system is 7,200 megawatts. This allows generating around 24 billion kilowatt hours of electricity annually and enables the country to annually export 2.1 billion kilowatt / hours of electricity.
