(Today`s Zaman) Newly elected President Abdullah Gul paid a surprise visit to the Mountain Commando Brigade in Siirt province on the third day of his tour of Turkey's eastern and southeastern provinces.
President Gul walked to a guard post at the command headquarters to salute the soldiers keeping guard, who were surprised by the gesture. Soldiers were reportedly pleased with this visit. Signaling that he will embrace the whole nation through visits to eastern and southeastern cities, Gul had his iftar, a meal eaten after sunset during Ramadan, a month of fasting for Muslims, with soldiers of the S?rnak Border Division Command.
