By Demir Azizov – Trend:

Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Ltd (MHPS) will build a combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) at Navoi Thermal Power Plant in Uzbekistan, an official with Uzbekenergo, an Uzbek state-run energy company, told Trend Oct. 20.

Uzbekenergo and the Japanese companies signed a contract to construct the CCGT, said the Uzbekenergo official.

Construction of the CCGT is to begin before late 2016 and end in 2019.

The Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems will supply the main components of the CCGT.

The Mitsubishi Corporation, in collaboration with Turkey’s Calik Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret AS, will supply the rest of the components, as well as provide transportation of the equipment, construction and installation.

The Uzbekenergo official didn’t reveal the cost of the contract.

Uzbekenergo is implementing a project to expand the Navoi Thermal Power Plant by constructing a 450 megawatt CCGT.

The total cost of the project is $547.2 million. The project will be financed through a 33.01 billion yen ($332.6 million) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a $150 million loan of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan and Uzbekenergo’s own funds.

Once commissioned, the CCGT will annually produce 3.27 billion kilowatt hours of electricity and 1,520 gigacalories of thermal energy.

Up to 90 percent of the electricity in Uzbekistan is produced by 10 thermal power plants of Uzbekenergo.

Uzbekenergo generated 55.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2015, which is 4.2 percent more than in 2014.
