"The volumes of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe depend on the political will of consumer countries," Deputy Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament Valeh Alasgarov said during his speech at a meeting of the Energy Security Committee of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in Baku on Tuesday.
He said there are no risks for investing in oil production in Azerbaijan, as export routes have been established and pipelines have been laid.
"It is necessary for the same situation to be observed in gas production. It will make investments in gas production attractive; as a result, production volumes will increase," Alasgarov said.
He refuted the notion that world oil reserves will run out.
"Oil production in Azerbaijan has grown by about 11 percent during the past 10 years, whereas during this period, proven reserves increased by 30 percent. A similar situation is being observed in gas production," Alasgarov said.
As member of the European Parliament from the Czech Republic, Co-Chair of the Energy Security Committee of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly Jiří Maštálka says, Azerbaijan is one of key players and partners of the EU.
"The main topic of today's meeting is energy security. We will continue to work on current projects. Many EU countries want to completely move to alternative sources, including natural gas. This meeting is important from this point of view," Maštálka said.
