Minister of Energy of Georgia Kakha Kaladze held a meeting with the Vice-President of the European Commission Fabricio Barbosa, Director General of the Energy Association Genesio Kopacz and a representative of the EU in Georgia Philip Dimitrov.
According to the Ministry of Energy for Georgia on Friday, during the meeting the parties discussed the prospective for Georgia's accession to the Energy Association.
Kaladze noted that integration into the Euro-Atlantic organisations is extremely important for Georgia. Moreover he said integration into the European Union is the cornerstone of the development of the country.
The purpose of the Energy Association is the creation of a competitive and transparent regional market in South-East Europe based on EU directives and principles of the Charter of the Association. The ultimate goal of the organisation is the effective integration with the EU energy market.
In early 2013, Georgia applied for membership of this organisation. This has to have a positive impact on improving the investment environment of the country which in turn helps to attract investment in this sector.
One of the priorities of the Energy Association is the work on the development of renewable energy sources.
According to Kaladze, Georgia wants to become a member of the organisation in order to bring its legislation in the energy sector with the norms existing in the EU. "Our integration with the EU is going in all directions," he said.
