Europe's largest combined cycle power plant built in Turkey

Turkey has completed the construction of Europe's largest combined cycle power plant in the province of Denizli, Cihan news agency reported on Monday.

According to the agency, some 500 million Euro was spent for the construction of the power plant undertaken by the RWE & Turcas joint venture. The working cycle of the power plant will involve both gas and steam turbines.

The power plant's capacity will amount to 775 megawatts, which will allow supply of electricity to two provinces of Turkey. The power plant will be ready for commissioning by the end of this year. The share of combined cycle power plant in the total electricity generation in Turkey amounts to two percent.

As reported earlier by the Turkish state-owned electricity transmission company (TEIAS), the production of electricity in Turkey in the first quarter of 2013 decreased by 5.2 percent compared to the same period of 2012, amounting to 58.8 billion kilowatt / hours.

Electricity consumption in January-March fell by 2.4 percent compared to the same period in 2012, amounting to 60.5 billion kilowatt / hours.

Electricity exports from Turkey in the first quarter of 2013 decreased by 84 percent to 185 million kilowatt / hours.
