Georgian Deputy Energy Minister Mariam Valishvili attended a presentation of the project of the Agency for International Development (USAID) called 'Hydro generation and energy planning project'.

USAID will work out a document 'Georgian hydropower market model-2015', as well as assist the Ministry of Energy in working out the energy policy and strategy.

The Georgian Ministry of Energy told Trend on Thursday that the U.S government is assisting Georgia in the regional and international energy trade, energy stability and independence of the country through the implementation of the project. USAID continues supporting the Georgian government to stimulate private investments in hydro-electric engineering.

The Ministry of Energy and USAID signed a memorandum on cooperation in 2012. This envisages the development of a new model for the energy market. SWOT analysis of the sector which will form the basis for a new strategic document was also carried out.

Work on the model will be completed by the end of 2014. Its implementation will begin in stages from 2015.
