Azerbaijani Media Rights Institute Appeals to State Departments to Adopt Freedom of Opinion Bill

Azerbaijan, Baku, 21 April / Trend corr. K.Zarrbaliyeva / The Azerbaijani Media Rights Institute appealed to State departments to adopt the Bill on Freedom of opinion. The appeal, submitted to the Executive Administration of President, Parliament, commissions chairmen, MPs, said that there is a need to adopt a Bill which will protect the journalists from ungrounded accusations in Azerbaijan.

Previously, Media Rights Institute has developed a Bill on 'Freedom of opinion' and 'Protection of anonymity of journalistic sources'. Institute considers it important to include the issue on abolishment of criminal proceeding against defamation into the agenda.

Institute believes that discussion of the Bill on 'Freedom of opinion' and its adoption might soften the situation around Freedom of Opinion in the country.
