Ukraine, Kiev, 21 November /corr. Trend Z.Novsvitski / The basic goal of the Kiev meeting of
the national coordinators of GUAM member states, which took place on 20-21 November,
was to prepare the meeting of the GUAM Foreign Ministers, GUAM Secretary
General, Valerie Chechelashvili, told Trend on 21 November.
"The meeting of the Foreign Ministers due on 4 December in Helsinki
within the OSCE Ministerial meeting will focus on three groups of the
questions: questions of political interaction in the organization, questions of
sectoral co-operation and questions of organizational activity of GUAM," said
Chechelashvili.
At the same time, he said that the questions
regarding political interaction are the co-operation with the international
organizations and co-operation in the format of GUAM plus. Questions of sectoral
co-operation deal the improvement of the activity of working groups and working
organs of GUAM in accordance with the decisions of Baku summit.
Within the organizational activity, there will be considered the technical and
technological innovations of Secretariat of GUAM due to removal to a constant address
in Sofievskoy street, 2a (Maydanas Nezalejnosti]) in Kiev.
Four post-Soviet republics; Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan and Moldova, established the GUAM format in 1997 during a summit of presidents of European Union countries in Strasburg. In 1999, Uzbekistan joined the organization but left four years later. In 2006, at the first summit of the organization in Kiev, a decision was made to announce GUAM as an international organization with a new name 'Organization for Democracy and Economic Development - GUAM'.
