Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 26/ Trend , J. Babayeva/ The Green Party of Azerbaijan can join Union of Left Forces.

"The Communist Party of Azerbaijan has appealed Green Party to join the same union on the basis of the Marxism-Leninism platform. If views of the left parties coincide with those of ours, joining the same union is possible," Mais Gulaliyev, chief of the Green Party, said to Trend .

Socialist Party, Communist Party, Party of Single Communism and Communist Party of Azerbaijan have set up Union of Left Forces on the basis of the Marxism-Leninism platform in order to take part in municipal and parliamentary election with a unified platform.

Azerbaijan will hold municipal election in 2009 and parliamentary election - in 2010.

The Green Party of Azerbaijan was founded in 2006. It has not been granted state registration so far.

Gulaliyev said he has emphasized the need to determine focus of joint action in the preliminary talks on joining the same union. "Any union should focus on solution of a concrete problem. We have not yet decided whether we will join the Union of Left Forces as approach of left parties to concrete problems are not available yet," he noted.

Rauf Gurbanov, co-founder of the Union of Left Forces and chief of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, said to Trend that the information about request to the Green Party to join the same union is false.

"The Union of Left Forces has not been founded yet. Request of not yet established organization to any party sounds ridiculous. The founders have stated that the format of the union will remain unchanged... If any party is willing to join this union, they should make an appeal in this regard," Gurbanov added.
