Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Oktay Asadov congratulated MPs and the Azerbaijani people on Republic Day at a parliamentary meeting.
Azerbaijan will strengthen national independence under the leadership of Aliyev. The social welfare of people will improve, Asadov said.
Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Rabiyyat Aslanova presented "Agreement on Legal Status of Catholic Church in Azerbaijan between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Holy See" to MPs.
The number of religious communities with a legal status in Azerbaijan includes the Catholic Church, she said.
The activity of the Catholic Church was restored after Azerbaijan gained independence, she said. She added that the relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican were established in 1997.
