Deputy FM to represent Azerbaijan at CIS FMs Council

Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov will represent the country at the next meeting of the Council of CIS Foreign Ministers to be held in Astana on April 6, Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told Trend on Wednesday.

Implementation of the plan following multi-level consultations between foreign ministries of the CIS in 2011 and plans for 2012 will be discussed at the meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the executive secretariat of the organisation reported earlier.

The CIS executive committee has already prepared proposals in the draft agenda of the meeting which were discussed by the Council of Permanent Representatives. They number more than 20 draft documents agreed at the meetings of expert groups of the CIS member states.

Along with questions of a political nature, the draft agenda includes issues of military cooperation and security, the humanitarian field and the activities of bodies of sectorial cooperation within the CIS.

According to the agenda, the Ministerial Council meeting is supposed to consider a draft strategy for the development of physical culture and sports within the CIS up to 2020 and its implementation in 2012-13, Agreements on cooperation in the field of engineering support for the armed forces of the Commonwealth, amendments and supplements to the documents regulating the issues of creating a common framework for third-country nationals and stateless persons entering the territory of member states will be discussed.

The Council of Permanent Representatives is also considering proposals in the draft agenda of the meeting of the Council of CIS heads of government, scheduled for May 30 in Ashgabat. Proposals include more than 20 draft documents on many areas of activity.
