The Turkmen Foreign Ministry has held talks with the EU delegation head by newly appointed EU Ambassador to Ashgabat Aurelia Bouchez, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry told Trend.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on effective cooperation in several areas, particularly in trade and economic, scientific, cultural and humanitarian spheres, which already has a substantial list of successful projects.
A separate theme of the meeting was cooperation in the fuel and energy sector in the context of the strategy of diversification of the energy sector pursued by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, including the laying of new pipelines, including to Europe, ensuring their operation and compliance with environmental safety standards. In addition, the presence of large prospects in the joint work on renewable energy, the use of which is especially important in the climatic conditions of Turkmenistan, was stressed.
As noted in the course of negotiations, Turkmenistan and the European Union will continue to develop constructive cooperation, strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial contacts. European vector is one of the top priorities of Turkmenistan's foreign policy. The successful cooperation of Turkmenistan with Europe in recent years has reached a qualitatively new level. Regular exchanges of delegations and bilateral meetings at different levels significantly contributed to this.
Discussing the current issues of global and regional policy, the parties noted with satisfaction the similarity or coincidence of views of Turkmenistan and the EU on issues such as ensuring global stability and security, security of supply of energy resources to world markets, implementation of objectives of sustainable development. It was stressed that the European Union appreciates the constructive international initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader, including at the recent UN World Conference on Sustainable Development Rio+20, and, for its part, intends to actively work with Turkmenistan on their practical implementation.
