BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 13. Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman) of Azerbaijan Sabina Aliyeva spoke on the recently discovered and exhumed in the villages of Melikahmedli in Gubadli district and Vejnali in Zangilan district, Trend reports.

"More human remains, presumably belonging to persons who went missing during the first Karabakh war were found," she said.

The Ombudsman noted that the fact of discovery of burials in Gubadli and Zangilan districts, which were under Armenian occupation for almost thirty years, testifies to the brutal crimes committed by Armenia against Azerbaijani captives, hostages and missing persons.

"Such cases are clear evidence of Armenia's gross violation of international humanitarian law norms and principles," she said.

She also noted that the presence of numerous mass graves in the liberated territories requires relevant research and appropriate measures. Despite the fact that the Armenian side has not provided the coordinates of the burial sites, the Azerbaijani side is trying to clarify the fate of the missing by identifying these graves through research.

"Once again, we call on the world community to make strong appeals to Armenia to provide information on the fate of about 4,000 Azerbaijanis, who went missing during the first Karabakh war, in order to meet the existing requirements in the field of international law and human rights," Sabina Aliyeva said.
