BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 19. The Western Azerbaijan Community has appealed to the international community over ongoing Armenian provocations, Trend reports.
As noted in the statement of the Community, the armed forces of Armenia, illegally present in the territories of Azerbaijan where peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation are temporarily deployed, committed terrorist acts in the early hours of September 19, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of six Azerbaijani citizens, including four policemen and two civilians. In addition, two servicemen were wounded as a result of the shelling of Azerbaijani Army positions by Armenian illegal armed groups.
The Community added that all this is taking place against the background of Armenia's refusal to fulfill its obligation to fully withdraw its troops from Azerbaijani territories, its support for separatism, sabotage of Azerbaijan's reintegration efforts, and a massive international smear campaign against Azerbaijan. It is obvious that Armenia's goal is to keep control over Azerbaijani territories and continue its territorial claims. The consistent steps taken by the Azerbaijani side on the basis of the norms and principles of international law gave Armenia the opportunity to choose peace and cooperation. Unfortunately, Armenia has not abandoned the ideology of racist mono-ethnic statehood and territorial expansion and has once again chosen the path of provocation with the incitement of a number of patrons.
"With this in mind, the Azerbaijani Army has launched localized anti-terrorist activities to restore Azerbaijan's constitutional order in Karabakh. The government of Armenia must abide by international law and obligations, withdraw the remnants of its army from the sovereign territory of Azerbaijan, disarm the illegal Armenian armed formations, and abolish the junta regime. We call on the international community to put pressure on this state so that Armenia renounces the ideology of mono-ethnic statehood and territorial expansion, stops encroaching on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan, and creates conditions for the dignified and safe return of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to their homes," the Community states.
In order to ensure the provisions of the Trilateral Statement, to stop large-scale provocations in the Karabakh economic region, to disarm and withdraw formations of the Armenian armed forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, to neutralize their military infrastructure, to ensure the safety of the peaceful population returning to the territories liberated from occupation, civil servants involved in construction and reconstruction works, and our military personnel, as well as to restore the constitutional order of the Republic of Azerbaijan, anti-terrorist measures have been launched in the region.
