One Vacancy for every 5 Applicants in Azerbaijan in January

Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 February / Trend I.Khalilova / By 1 February 2008, 50,505 unemployed people were officially registered in Azerbaijan, with 49.9% of them being women. Unemployment has decreased by 016% in January and there is one vacancy for every 5 applicants in the country, the State Statistical Committee reported.

Over the reported period, the labour capable population in the country equalled 4.295mln (4.014mln employed). Of them, 1.363mln work as hired employees ( 884,600 in the public sector). Of them, 13.6% work in the field of industry, 3.7% in construction, and 2.9% in agriculture, forestry and fishing. Some 37.8% of employees work in the field of education, 15% in health and social services, 14.9% in the health and social service field, 8.6% in transport and communications, 7.7% in communal and social sectors, 5% in real estate sale/purchase operations, 4.5% in State management and defence, 0.7% in wholesale and retail centres, car repair, domestic devises and 0.5% in other sectors.

In 2007, the number of the employees engaged in economic activities comprised 5,200, with 1,400 engaged in industry, 1,300 in construction, 1,100 in real estate operations, 0,600 in trade, 0,300 in education, 0,200 in transport and communications and 0,300 in other fields.

The average unemployment allowance totals AZN 99.4.
