Iran extracts 290 million tons of minerals annually

Iran extracts more than 290 million tons of minerals annually from country's mine reserves, IRNA reported quoting deputy of Geological and Mineral Exploration Organization of Iran Behruz Borna as saying.

Iran 's Mine extraction includes 68 types of minerals, while 30 new types of minerals discovered during new explorations, he said.

Iran 's mineral reserves are 57 billion tons and currently 21,000 mineral industries are active in the country.

Iran possesses 3 percent of world mineral reserves, it has great potential in mineral reserve since it placed on Alps Himalaya belt it has enriched country's reserves.

A famous copper, gold belt - Orumiyeh-Dokhtar magmatic belt - passes through Iran. A steel belt from Oman also passes through Iran while belts of lead, zinc, chromate enriches Iran's mineral reserves.

Before the Islamic revolution (1979) Iran had 300 active mines, but now their number is 5,700.
