The development of a master plan for Great Baku running up until 2035 has been launched to reconstruct the Baku water supply and sewerage system.

Azersu Chairman Gorkhmaz Huseynov said in a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers this week that international companies will be involved in the process.

"In accordance with the State program on socio-economic development in Baku and its suburbs from 2011-2013, it is planned to build a new water purifying complex with the capacity of six cubic meters per second in the territory of Ceyranbatan water purifying complex to ensure reliable water supply of Baku villages," Huseynov added.

Furthermore, main water supply pipelines with a diameter of 800-1,400 mm and a length of 150 kilometers will be built along the Masazir, Balakhani, Ramana, Zire, Pirallahi villages.

"For efficient handling water, which will enter these pipes, and saving electricity, it is planned to build 10 water reservoirs with the total water capacity of 200,000 cubic meters," Huseynov said.

According to Huseynov, distribution pipelines and water reservoirs will provide an additional water network to Absheron to ensure qualitative water supplies to the region.

"It is planned to launch projects on collection and management of sewage waters, new projects in water economy system," Huseynov underscored. "While implementing new projects it is planned to create SCADA system, which will ensure handling water and sewerage system of Baku from a unified center."
