The Azerbaijani and Latvian agriculture ministries have today signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation. The document was signed by ministers Ismet Abasov and Laimdota Straujuma in Baku.

The current level of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector and ways of assisting its further development was discussed during the meeting.

Two more agreements on cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine are planned to be signed soon, Abasov said. The Azerbaijani agriculture minister plans to visit Latvia.

"Today, Azerbaijan imports cattle breeding products from Latvia," the minister said. "It mainly exports fresh and processed fruits and vegetables to this country. There are great opportunities to expand this cooperation."

He added that the visit shows the high level of interest from Latvian businessmen to cooperate with Azerbaijan.

The parties also agreed to exchange experience between the agricultural universities of the two countries and to conduct joint research.
