Baku International Sea Port increases cargo handling by over 10 percent

The Baku International Sea Trade Port handled about 5.81 million tons of cargo in January-Oct., 2013 which is by 11 percent more than the same period of 2012, a source at the port told Trend on Nov.26.

The port handled around 6.37 million tons of cargo in 2012, compared to 6.7 million tons in 2011.

According to the source, around 3.56 million tons of the total volume of cargo handled by the port in January-Oct. fell to ferry cargo which is by 16 percent more compared to the same period of 2012.

Around 3.79 million tons of the total volume of handled cargo fell to ferry cargo in 2012, which is equal to the figure of 2011.

Around 1.08 tons of cargo was handled by the port's dry cargo terminal in January-Oct. which is by 10 percent more than in January-Oct., 2012.

Around 1.17 million tons of cargo was handled by the dry cargo terminal of the port in 2012 which is by four percent more than in 2011.

According to the source, around 3360 containers were handled by the port in January-Oct., which is by 30 per cent lower than in January-Oct., 2012.

In total, around 8490 containers were handled by the port in 2012, compared to 9230 in 2011.
