By Huseyn Valiyev - Trend:

The scholars of Azerbaijan and Israel will cooperate in the field of science and innovation, Director of the Regional Information Technologies Academy (RITA) Tofig Babayev told Trend March 3.

He said that the cooperation of the scholars of the two countries was discussed as part of a two-day meeting in Tel Aviv in late January. The meeting was dedicated to the "Idealist-2018" new project, to be implemented in the next four years.

"The goal of the new project, as well as the previous ones, is to bring together national coordinators of the European Union and other countries in the field of ICT," he said. "During the meeting, the upcoming work of the national coordinators was determined during the meeting. They will have to conduct this work in their countries. The matter rests in holding the training and attracting the national research organizations to cooperate in the field of ICT upon "Horizon-2020" program."

Babayev said that according to the preliminary data, one of the training sessions will be held in Azerbaijan in 2017 under the assistance of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS).

"As for the direct cooperation among Azerbaijani and Israeli scholars, it is very real," he said. "The issue will be discussed at the level of the ANAS management. The matter rests in the cooperation in all scientific fields. Today the ANAS is engaged in their development."

He said that Azerbaijan's delegation reviewed the activity of the Innovation Support Investment Fund in Jerusalem.

"The budget of the fund is about $ 1.2 billion," he said. "This is quite a large amount. The fund uses it with the support of innovative projects."

ANAS president Akif Alizade is on a visit to Israel from February 22 to March 1, 2015. He reviewed the projects which are being implemented in the laboratories at the Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, ANAS told Trend.

"Alizade discussed the prospects of further cooperation and increasing of Azerbaijani students' qualification at these universities," the statement says. "Presumably, this issue and the cooperation issues of the sides in other directions will be discussed by the ANAS management and Israeli universities during a meeting, scheduled for the autumn 2015 in Baku."
