JSC "Uzbekenergo" paid KEGOC JSC the main debt in the amount of $143 million for the supply of electricity and services in the period from 2011 to 2017, the Kazakhstan electric power company KEGOC said in a statement.

The Kazakh company noted that JSC Uzbekenergo fully repaid the main debt in December 2017.

"These agreements were concluded to ensure reliable and stable parallel operation of the Unified Power System of Kazakhstan and the energy system of Uzbekistan. At the same time, over the past few years there have been no payments from the energy system of Uzbekistan," the press release said.

Despite non-payment, Kazakhstan continued to supply electricity to ensure reliable operation of the Unified Power Systems of both countries.

KEGOC states that the company intends to deepen cooperation with JSC "Uzbekenergo".

At present, Uzbekenergo produces over 60 billion kilowatt-hours per year, 10 percent of which accounts for hydroelectric power stations, and 90 percent - thermal power plants.

Electricity consumption in the country is growing every year. So, if in 2000 the monthly consumption of one family was 114 kilowatt-hours, then by 2016 it increased by 35 percent and reached 160 kilowatt-hours.
