Gross agricultural production in the Turkistan region of Kazakhstan reached 475.6 billion tenge, the press service of the region's administration quoted Governor Zhanseit Tuymenbayev as saying.
According to this indicator, the region ranked second in the country.
Tuymenbayev spoke about the achievements of the region during the agricultural festival AGROFEST-2018, held in Turkistan city.
"A record amount of 2.8 million tons of vegetables and melons has been produced. Of these, 500,000 tons were exported to Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Germany, and about 1 million tons was sent to the northern regions of Kazakhstan," Tuymenbayev said.
He also added that 40 percent of fruits and vegetables of Kazakhstan and 73 percent of grapes are produced in Turkistan region.
During the festival, best farmers of the region were awarded medals in 21 categories and special certificates. Also, a fair was organized as part of the event, where 182 tons of agricultural products were sold at a discount of 15-20 percent.
In addition, an exhibition was organized, where agricultural products, breeding animals and modern machinery of Turkistan region were presented.
