Kazakhstan's Turkistan region steps up meat production

The number of cattle in the Turkistan region of Kazakhstan in 2018 increased by 9 percent to 994,200, Trend reports referring to the press service of the region’s administration.

Nurbek Badyrakov, head of the region’s Agriculture Department, also told reporters that the number of sheep and goats increased by 3 percent to 4.1 million, horses by 8 percent to 320,500, camels by 8 percent to 28,000, and birds by 9 percent to 2.04 million.

"Meat production in the Turkistan region increased by 5 percent to 222,000 tons. The region’s share in the total volume of meat produced in Kazakhstan in 2018 increased by 3 percent," he said.

In addition, egg production increased by 8 percent to 188.1 million and milk production rose by 3 percent to 69,000 tons.

Last year, the Turkistan region exported 9,600 tons of meat to Uzbekistan, Iran and the UAE, which accounted for 54 percent of Kazakhstan’s total meat exports.
